Ring Shopping

Saturday,

After spending the week together,

We were at the mall...

You holding my hand,

Grabbing my waist,

Kissing my lips, my neck, my forehead.

Your fingers interlaced with mine-

Waiting for your phone to be fixed,

We window shopped.

You stopped me among the bustling crowd,

"Want to look at engagement rings together?"

I stopped, a bit caught off guard,

I looked up at you,

Trying to hold back the intense joy that overcame me-

"Yeah, let's do it!" I quip,

Trying to keep it cool-

We go into the jewelry store,

The clerk asks how she can help

You say it again,

"Do you guys have a section for engagement rings?"

She shows us the way

We talk,

And laugh,

And smile,

And look-

You don't let go of my hand once...

We discuss the shapes, the colors, the styles we want-

This is the second time we've talked about it, but this time felt more intentional.

So I take note,

Of exactly what you want,

So that one day,

Inshallah,

I can give it to you.
